Sanipur Towards “Zero Residue”

WHY IS GREEN CHEMISTRY IMPORTANT?

We have clearly understood that the focus on environmental issues is becoming increasingly urgent. Global warming, fossil fuels, pollution… these are just a few words that have now become part of our daily lives. It is precisely for this reason that some sectors and industrial processes are striving, through innovation, to improve their production techniques to have less impact on the environment: just think of electric cars to reduce oil extraction and use, or photovoltaic panels for electricity production, and so on.

The chemical sector is also taking steps towards greater sustainability: this is where green chemistry comes into play.

We can define green or sustainable chemistry as the design of chemical products and processes that reduce, and sometimes even eliminate, the generation of hazardous substances. The main objective is to apply the concept to all phases of a product’s life cycle, from creation to disposal, in order to limit environmental impact at every level.

SANIPUR’S SUSTAINABLE CHEMISTRY

At Sanipur, challenges and innovations are embraced: this is why the company is committed to the constant improvement of its products and services, aiming to consolidate the high-quality results it has always achieved, while aligning them with the new market demands. In particular, for several years now, the reduction of the environmental impact of cleaning and disinfection processes has become a priority. Indeed, while fully aware of the importance of these aspects for the quality of the water we drink (and not only!), Sanipur is equally convinced that it is essential to rethink the products used in such processes, embracing the principles of green chemistry as much as possible, in order to ensure greater environmental compatibility, not just in their use, but also in their production.

The first outcome of this new challenge was the reinterpretation of SANICLEAN, the well-established solution for washing and sanitising drinking water tanks and storage containers, with a “zero residue” approach: this gave birth to SANICLEAN GREEN.

INNOVATION AND RESEARCH FOR BIO-BASED PRODUCTS

The positive results obtained from the first experimental products prompted Sanipur to embark on a more comprehensive path of developing new and innovative solutions for cleaning and sanitising various types of surfaces across different sectors, from agri-food to healthcare, all connected by contact with what Sanipur has always focused on: water.

Several formulations were thus conceived and implemented, entirely composed of bio-based raw materials, derived from renewable sources and obtained through biotechnological processes with a reduced environmental impact. These formulations are particularly effective in removing biofilm, which often poses a serious obstacle to effective disinfection of circuits and surfaces. These formulations are based on the principle that it is not possible to disinfect efficiently without first carrying out proper cleaning: this is why Sanipur has developed green, bio- and eco-compatible formulations that effectively remove organic and inorganic deposits, preparing the ideal conditions for a deeper and more complete subsequent disinfection phase, for which “zero residue” disinfectant products have been designed.

REGIONE LOMBARDIA AWARDS SANIPUR’S IDEA

The new formulations are currently the subject of a European and US patent application: due to the merit and innovation of these ideas, as well as their wide potential for application, Sanipur was awarded within the framework of the Bando Brevetti 2021 initiative sponsored by Regione Lombardia, receiving financial support for submitting the patent application.

Green chemistry is possible: thanks to significant investments in innovation and research, Sanipur is making its products increasingly sustainable and with a limited environmental impact.

At Sanipur, we thrive on challenges and innovations.
