What are biocides?
According to what is defined by the European Legislation, monochloramine must be considered as a biocidal product. The definition of biocide product includes:
- Any chemical substance intended to destroy, eliminate, render harmless or exert a controlling effect on any harmful organism.
- Any disinfectant dosed in water with the aim of preventing the proliferation of microorganisms that pose at risk the human health.
Biocide certification European regulation (EU BPR)
The European Union approved the European Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, Regulation (EU) 528/2012) which came into force on 1 September 2012 with the aim to harmonize the biocidal product markets among all the Member States.
The purpose of the Regulation is to improve the biocidal products market at EU level, ensuring their effective efficacy together with a high level of protection for human health and for the environment.
Sanipur and Art. 95 list of the BPR
When choosing the product to be used for water disinfection, it is essential to ensure that the disinfectant you are considering is subjected to the evaluation process described above and that the supplier is included in the Art. 95 list of the BPR.
